By paring his portraits down to the essence, Simon manages to create incredibly strong and emotional images with the minimum of distractions. Having worked in charcoal and white chalk on his portraits for many years, Simon now achieves the same vision using digital tools. Although Simon also paints in watercolour and acrylic, he has chosen to concentrate more and more on his digital work. “Without the tedious preparation and clean-up times involved with traditional mediums, I am able to be more spontaneous with my portraits. I believe this results in livelier, more dynamic images and I am happy that my fine art prints from digital files more than match the quality of my charcoal portraits on paper.”
